Should I focus on GitHub stars or forks for my open source project?

We have been in a pretty interesting case where the forks/stars ratio has been > 30% and growing steadliy in this ratio.

We understand that stars might be a vanity metric and hence we are focusing more on the number of forks and talking to developers using us.

Wanted to know about the experience on stars v/s forks towards growing the community and the overall project as to what worked best and what things we can avoid. I do undertand that every use-case might be different.
