While this makes sense for teachers that are swamped with papers to grade, I really hope this isn't being used for grades without a human checking it. Now, using AI to give students personalized feedback immediately, that's really cool. I actually think Class Companion[1] does this really well.

If the students using AI to write the essays is cheating, isn't this cheating too?

In my experience, it's important to show the student's you care about their work. For example, I prefer to write the homework in the balckboard instead of giving them a photocopy. If I waste 10 minutes coping the homework and another 10 giving general feedback and more with personalized feedback, (some of) them get the message that homework is important.
