Fireside chat with DHH – Leaving the Cloud [video]

This video needs more views, if just for the sheer number of burns DHH gives to the public clouds during it, it is honestly hilarious at times (in a good way).

Personally, I wouldn't have created my own deployment tool like they did, and just stuck to either VMs+docker+something like ansible, or just k8s on prem since they already had some things running on k8s. (They said they thought about k8s on prem but were scared at the support costs from SUSE, but...you don't have to get support for k8s..., you can pretty easily provision your own cluster on prem with rancher, rke specifically, and that is free/open source).

Either way, I can't help but agree with most of his points and I'm getting pretty fed up in general with the public clouds. Perhaps cloud repatriation will actually be a thing for a lot of companies.
