How I made my biggest career mistake at the time I joined Google

My Google story rhymes with this one, though it's hard to see how I could have guessed what I was in for and chosen any differently. Perhaps Google has become less secretive over the last dozen years, but at the time I couldn't have gotten answers to the questions I would have needed to ask, and the answers to other questions I did ask proved to be bullshit.
