Aren't these just transformers where the two sets of windings don't share a tangible core and are not placed optimally close ? Or am I missing something ?

Yup, just squeezing performance out of a really bad transformer.

Well gee then, why don't explanations of wireless power use this analogy/fact ? I guess if I knew, I'd be running a jargon-infested tech reporting empire.
