#2With all the drama surrounding Reddit at the moment, it's nice to look back to a time when things were so much simpler, and most of the things we had to worry about were just tech.

#3The state of threading on FreeBSD was so poor that, would you believe it, for a time, FreeBSD was using a port of LinuxThreads (the pre-NPTL posix-like threading library written by Xavier Leroy of OCaml fame, integrated into glibc).
I think that may have still been true in 2005.
