#2I have done all three, I'm currently 100% remote, and I am clamoring to get back into a situation where I can spend a couple days a week in the office. "best" and "worst" varies wildly case by case.

The office is remarkably horrible in contrast with my luxurious home office which does not have adjacent cubicles full of coworkers talking about there lawns and/or constitutional carry.
Commutes also are uniquely terrible, and my home office has one measured in 10s of seconds.
