tl;dr: …provides an easy and compact way to identify your own music files, or to match/correct music metadata. Looking up tracks on MusicBrainz can be a challenge, since you need to understand the schema. Not so with this dataset – import the dataset into your favorite datastore and start looking up tracks.

If you've ever wanted to write your own music tagger, but the right data was missing to make it a fun/easier job, now is the time. I'd love to know what people think of the data set -- we at MetaBrainz have been making a lot of use of it. It powers the incoming Listen matching on our ListenBrainz project with great success.
