we really need better governance for our global communications networks besides whatever maximizes profits for majority stakeholders of a few tech companies.

Call your legislators and regulators if so desired, they've got the means to turn the screws.

Can always file an antitrust complaint as well:

It's really just a matter of Google censoring people's email to promote Google services over third party competitors. We as a society need to figure out how to get people to stop using gmail.

The calendar spam is real, and it doesn't serve anyone to pretend it's not.

Just like other anti-spam measures, non-spammers will get caught up in this. But a reasonable solution starts with acknowledging the issue is real: people figured out how to get calendar bookings on my calendar w/o my approval.
