#2Trend 1: Look at Tik Tok and other apps from Asia. I see a lot of papers on arXiv go by on recommendation technology from people from China and India that are very advanced, almost like a "missile gap". The fact is that Amazon, Facebook and Google are like GM, Ford and Chrysler in the 1970s and very much trapped by their attitudes and business models.
Trend 2: I would say "anti-social media" that is using A.I. to curate your own feed. I am working on a smart RSS reader that looks like Tik Tok for text and had an AUC of 71% w/ a classical model and gets 76% with an embedding, and will probably do better when I am making fine-tuned transformers reliably but Tik Tok is getting a touch better than 80% so I feel pretty good about it. My system takes more data to learn than Tik Tok does but someone who dedicated can definitely do it.
