#2They are overpriced to the extent that I am discouraged to even buy a MBP now because I would have to baby it so much given the absurd price tag. It would just end up sitting on a desk for its entire life, and at that point I might as well buy a Mac mini.

#3My M1 MBP is built and still performing so well, it’s going to last at least 3 more years.
Unless Apple integrates a new accelerated ML chip next year that’s going to revolutionize the way we’re able to train and interact with small, specialized AI models in macOS.

#4I feel like they went through a similar cycle at some point with the iPhone. They got to a point where they were so good and so expensive it was not necessary at all to upgrade every year. Now it is generally accepted that phones are upgraded on a 2-3 year cycle. The m series macs will be no different. Something that would help would be to roll out new series chips across the entire product line at the same time. Right now there is pent up demand for mac studio, mac pro, etc to get the m2.

#5Given the state of the PC market it would be shocking if Mac sales were not also affected.

I’m really curious when we will get there. Especially game consoles, a dedicated chip for running inference could be really fun for developers

#7I wonder if this is a combination of the central banks around the world’s massive rate rises starting to really bite, combined with the profiteering we’ve been seeing in things like groceries, energy etc.
Either that, or it’s just made up… More than once I’ve seen reports like this about Apple and then strong or even record sales announced the next quarter.

Baseline models are relatively affordable but they charge about 5x more for memory and storage than the prices of corresponding PC parts.
That's been their trick for decades but it seems like the multiplier has been getting higher lately?
$800 + tax for a 2TB SSD is insane.

#10No surprises here. The new Mac release cycle is not transparent to the consumers, and the differences between M1 and M2 are marginal for most use cases.
