That's an incredibly useful trick and now I wonder if there is a small Windows utility that makes it easy to recover similar ghost data?

GDB and grep but built for windows.
Or you could use Cheat Engine if you have a fear of terminals.

Beat me to it. Windows would be intolerable for me without MinGW/MSYS[0]. (Sure, there's WSL2, but that's not quite the same, and I was using MinGW and friends long before it existed.)

Or just a case of bad hardware from the factory. QC is run by humans and sometimes out of spec (aka busted) hardware makes it out of the factory. Was your replacement covered by Apple care?

But then when the nasty clipped lead comes in, that overloads them a lot more and the safety daemon clamps down on the tweeter volume.
That's called compression.

#9IDK, it pales in comparison to any decent monitor speaker. Even the cheapest.
Laptops unfortunately always sounds "from inside a cardboard box".
