After 20 years in the industry I think you don't need to be "smart" the way people generally mean but rather you need a logical, abstract, and synthetic mindset.

I think law is actually similar.

Being logical is helpful in many fields!

I’m not sure if I follow. Do you mean no one is smart enough to be an engineer?
