Wow, that is a really beautiful effect. It's neat that you can rotate the lighting and add aerial / atmospheric perspective as well.

Something I wonder about, after doing a lot of 3D work for various projects--have they considered other options like:

- Local time-of-day light model + suggested add-on light model? (Like if it's dark, use some light-assist model)

- Rendering snow, fog levels, etc. as available?

- Offering a switch to something other than white light?

That last one was a big point of learning for me in terms of painting with light, as just a touch of hue makes a big difference, and I wonder if it would be interesting for map users. But at the same time I recognize that in terms of traditional map relief, the standard is more like white light.
