#2I'm a founder of a new startup focused on making matches for other people. Posting here to get opinions on the product and try to build an audience prior to our launch in a couple weeks. Happy for any feedback even if it's shitting on the concept.
The main idea is that everyone signs up as a matchmaker and swipes right or left on matches between two daters, either on the general public or specifically for friends/family. Basically "crowdsourcing" dating and having everyone vote on other people's matches. Daters are given cards to swipe on in order of most upvoted, so they get feedback that X amount of people looked into them + thought they would be a good match. Matchmakers would gain a sort of "elo" and climb up and down on their city's leaderboards to make the matchmaking more gamified and provide an incentive for it, and then daters can send matchmaking requests to the top matchmakers from there.
Our thoughts on the benefits were: expands the userbase to include non-singles and helps with user churn found on other apps, daters don't have to do any work other than making a complete profile, less demoralizing and objectifying for daters who no longer have to constantly swipe and compare themselves, matchmakers are incentivized to make good matches because bad matches are penalized on the leaderboard, hopefully the matchmaking swiping game is fun and engaging which keeps people on the app and engaged with it

It seems like new dating apps have to contend with the challenge a small number of initial users, especially very few women.
I think some dating apps started of very localized at first and then expanded as popularity increased. Have you put any thought into this challenge?

Yep, definitely agree. From our customer discovery interviews the demographic most interested in matchmaking has been adult women aged 18-35 that are in relationships. So that should give us an edge in women users, but only as matchmakers. We are hoping that these women will pull their single friends into the app as daters to matchmake for them.

So we have a leaderboards screen where you rank in your city based on your elo as a matchmaker. The algo is pretty simple right now and is basically just the number of accepted matches you voted on (where the daters actually swiped on each other) - the incorrect matches. We're hoping this adds to the gamification of swiping on matches.
And our MVP is currently entirely free, but if we see traction and validation of the concept the monetization plan is 1) the usual premium plan found on other apps but then also a "bounty" system where daters can put a bounty on their profile and the matchmaker can actually earn money by successfully matching for them.
