#2Very interesting. I visited the birthplace of William the Bastard/Conqueror in France a few years back and it was noteworthy how the Normans commented on the rich fabrics and apparent wealth of Anglo-Saxon visitors - no doubt all factors behind the subsequent catastrophe of the Norman Invasion in 1066.
