I’ve always purchased MacBook Pros.
My Late 2013 model, with 16GB RAM, is still great but can longer get last couple versions of macOS. Probably need to get something next year.

#3If true I will probably get it. I was considering the 14'' MBP just for the larger screen but 15.5'' with the Air form factor would be perfect.

My M2 Air builds our iOS app in less than 1/10th the amount of time it took on my 2015 MBP.

I'm surprised they are building such a large MBA, it might be curtains for the 16-inch MBP in that case.

Going with MBP still gets you 64GB max ram, more cpu and gpu cores, and more than 1 external monitor. I think the 16” MBP will stick around for a while.

It's about as crowded as it was in the aluminum PowerBook G4 days when you had the 12" iBook, 14" iBook, 12" PB G4, 15" PB G4 and 17" PB G4. Now they have the 13" MBA, the 13" MBP, 14" MBP, and 16" MBP. The only model that really needs to go is the 13" MBP as it brings very little to the table over the MBA. A 15" MBA would make a lot more sense than the 13" MBP IMO.

I don't think it's crowded. Lay aside the legacy products - the old form factor M1 Air and 13inch Pro. You now have a very simple product line: Minimalist vs Maximalist and Small vs Big screen. The Airs will be thinner, have the basic M chips and 2 ports. The Pros will be thicker, have the juicy M chips, and have all the fancy ports. Nice market segmentation, simple differentiation. The only thing to do is wait 14 more years for them to kill off the legacy products.
