I still remember that one time SourceForge was caught putting adware in installers, while the new owners have been running a cleaner ship there will now always be the question of "will it happen again? Could it happen on GH/GL/...?" so having strong Free and Open alternatives is very valuable.

Also SourceHut, since Drew is too polite to mention it directly.

I don’t think that particular evil will happen again at one of the major hosts, but I’m worried about some variation of it.
