Is it ever a good thing to use a nonfree program?

I want game worlds to be locked away from me in such a way that I could not use an editor to conjure a game position I would have to work for. I'm a monkey the same as all of you. If I can do that instead of work for it, I will and that ruins the game for me. Hence I accept the shacles because I find it fun, in the long term.
