Are Americans getting richer or poorer?

It's important to realise that Capitalism is a process. In that process, money percolates upwards to fewer and fewer rich people from more and more poorer people.

Once there are too few rich people and too many poor people for the process to continue, the system resets through war or revolutions and then starts again. (examples: Russian revolution, French revolution, etc)
