The only advantage of early profitability is to avoid taking VC money at all. If the eventual money making plan for the owners is to sell out then profitability may have nothing to do with it.

VCs intend to make money off you one way or another. At the very least I would consider not dismissing those who are upfront about it.

Absolutely, I'm just trying to do some sense-making: figuring out monetisation seems a B series kind of problem, isn't it?
