They have a point there.
More than once have those people at the UKgov simply "lost" notebooks or HDDs.
Do they really store the complete census data on an unencrypted HDD? Even my cheap netbook is better secured (Ubuntu has encrypted ~ as default and additionally I use encFS for any data that goes to a backup external USB-HDD, its not like it was diffcult to set up in 2011).
I just hope lulzsec publishes parts (anonymized hopefully) of it and some high politician gets finished by the media and is forced to resign over it. Looks like that is the only way to make the people responsible start to actually secure things. As I said, currently even my netbook is better secured.

They now offer, duringinstallation, te option to encrypt your home directory.
