#2Read Lasch's _The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy_ and you'll be amazed it was written some 30 years ago.
Given its prescience, it seems wise to heed some of his warnings.

Most modern progressives would not consider Lasch to be a progressive. In the current era, his arguments would be far closer to a typical populist than a typical progressive.
Some even consider him a conservative, of sorts:

I'll take a look at the book you mention, but I wouldn't write Lasch off as a progressive (or conservative) if you've never read any of his books, particularly his last one.
Finally, Lasch had no problems with capitalism per se, but with the way modern capitalists (unlike prior capitalists) have for the most part abandoned cultural and community responsibilities, beyond throwing out a few percent of their income into some foundation. Particularly in the last half of his life, he was a capitalist, having dropped any support for socialism in the 1960s.
