Make me doubt whether these people were producing any new research or just re-copy-pasting whatever is already known, or some relatively trivial surveying thing. You know, these people are why even actually talented PoCs or women are often subconsciously perceived as diversity hires.

I mean, being loud left-leaning activist shouldn't give anyone a pass. Google is a corporation and they have all rights to fire them.

Corporations engaged in antisocial activities have a long history of feigning self-regulation and ending those efforts if they don't align. (Looking at you pharma / fossil fuels) Imo the meager achievements of these people google has been shedding, indicate that their business purpose was to whitewash google's AI ethics. It seems like they didn't expect that was what their job, and were doing it wrong.
