Also with no magnetic shield, I wonder would animals (humans too) have seen higher occurrences of cancer, related diseases?

#4This is not too dangerous as long as the phase transition is not instantaneous. A one year weakening period is more than enough for man made intervention. We have ways of making an artificial magnetosphere (see literature by NASA's James Green). Models have been calculated for Mars. It is not cheap but doable. A nuclear reactor+superconductor satellite in orbit. Borderline exotic by commercial standards but relatively normal for military proposes.
A more worrying threat is supernovae. Those can't be easily shielded against with current technology.

#5Great, except cave art in the identical tradition, on Sulawesi, dates back 46,000 years and more. Conservative reasoning must assume, at least for now, that it spread west from there, reaching Europe many millennia later.
For most of the past 40,000 years, sea level was 400 feet lower. Probably most ancient cave paintings are now deep underwater, and we only find the ones made up in the hills.
So Sulawesi cave art long precedes the Adams Event. Maybe that was the trigger for it to begin to be carried west.

#6How did they use those kauri trees to figure out when the flip happened? The article mentions radiocarbon dating and counting tree rings but those seem like 2 different ways to date the event, not what they actually looked for in the tree to signify the event. Also, TIL about kauri trees.

There are kauri trees of different ages, and the thickness of the rings varies with weather, so they can line them up and stitch together series from lots of trees to get all the way to the present. (Don't need kauri trees for the most recent stuff.)
Also, you can check the carbon ratio in a particular ring. That gives you a sample of the air from that year. Because, you know, trees are very, very literally made out of air.

I don't think we have a solution to shield from all incoming radiation. I think you underestimate the scale.

Interestingly it's called the Adam and Eve story
