Is the weather data supplied as open source, with a requirement that any products that uses it must be similarly open??? A lot of this data comes from NASA. If this is the case, any map maker with a fee basis might not want to give their work product away with that sort of strings on it??

Not NASA, NOAA.

Apple acquired darksky weather app last year so they have a weather backend https://www.theapplepost.com/2020/04/01/apple-acquires-popul... https://maps.darksky.net/@temperature,2021-2-13,18,-32.328,1...

Yes, and while I love that this happened, I'm also curious if they're actually working to integrate it into Maps, or simply make Weather more accurate of an app.
