I love https://hn.algolia.com. I usually use it to search through my own comment history. I wish reddit.algolia.com existed, as the existing options are not good. I wonder if it would scale to the reddit corpus?

Feature request for HN search: the default should be stories and comments, not stories, and comments should never be sorted by popularity since that has been broken since 2011 when comment scores were made private.

This REALLY needs a (2013) on the end. In the 7 years since this was published, Elasticsearch has added search_as_you_type analyzer, among many other changes. https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.x/...

If you’re looking for an open source alternative to Algolia, checkout Typesense: https://github.com/typesense/typesense

Comparable in performance to Algolia.
