#42020 update: the eggs actually became available in supermarkets (REWE) for little extra cost, but are subject to regional availability.

But you need to raise hens to get eggs. And if it turns out a rooster, you kill it instantly. This method avoids hatching the roosters.

The eggs are like every other egg. What seems to change is the process to procure the animals that will lay those eggs.
Instead of killing the male chickens as they hatch, you destroy the eggs halfway through the incubation period.

The article states that 4 to 6 billion male chicks are killed a year.
When looking to raise hens to lay eggs.
This company has developed a system for identifying the sex of a chicken whilst it is an egg.
So that they don't need to hatch it to determine if it's a male chicken and then kill it.

#10It's very strange to kill male chicks, I'm eating capon instead of regular chicken nowadays because it has much more flavor and a better bite. If people would simply eat them more they also don't have to be killed. Castration is not super animal friendly though.
