Re: Show HN: How Many People Have Voted?
#2I was thinking about the number of people that actually vote, and with more states allowing early voting, I wondered how it would affect participation in the election (given the current pandemic).
I was able to find the raw data on http://www.electproject.org/ but wasn't happy with how it was being displayed, so I created my own visualization.

#3I don’t understand exactly what the colors are. Is it 2016 results, with darker shades being more extreme? Is it 2020 polls? Something else?
I would like an option to sort alphabetically so that I can quickly find particular states. For example, it was hard for me to find PA which is very important this election, because I overestimated its turnout and had to scan through most of the list (also, yikes!).

Red/Blue is an indication who won that state in 2016.
The shading (light -> dark) was mean't be an indicator of how much participation in the current election.
The lighter the color, the closer to 100% of the 2016 voting numbers has already been achieved.
Will add some sorting options!

very cool! this i imagine would be reasonably difficult but it would be interesting to see what the delta of registered voters or population. If a state has grown by 200000 hitting their 2016 number maybe is less significant.
We figured we could access census data for the states/counties and see how the population has shifted, between elections.
Definitely doable, would just need some time to collect the data.

Thanks for the feedback, will add a FAQ or something to explain, but posting here too: Red/Blue is an indication who won that state in 2016. That doesn't seem quite right. But in any case, how are numbers represented that already exceed 2016's?
