Interesting. Netbeans had just such a plugin many (10? more?) years ago, working via XMPP that was a joy to use. Then Sun decided they wanted to sell some cloudy/server-based "collaboration" thing that was nowhere near as good, so the plugin got killed.

As I recall it not only shared editing sessions, but also (live) debugger sessions and builds.
