Justice Dept. brands NYC an ‘anarchist jurisdiction,’ targets federal funds

An historian friend of mine called this a "thermidorian reaction." I had to look it up because of course I first thought of chemistry. Made me wonder if the US really is at risk for some kind of modern dictator or emperor.
