Good. It's a small step. But barriers to entry can only increase the quality of content.

No it doesn't. Click [next] and leave the email address empty.

Is there a test going on? What you are saying used to work, but I get a different form. The one I get looks like:

[email]

[username]

[password]

And you can’t click submit without an email.
