I'm curious how they made money in the beginning before they were huge. Was it always from ads from day one?

#2It took Google a long time to monetize the search engine. They were financed by venture capital until they built and ran their advertising business. Once that got going the money started pouring in. Advertising for Google is still the primary money maker for them. People want to call Google a tech company but it's really an advertising company that needs tech to survive,
