#2I had the fun of using this system when I was doing my undergraduate thesis. I had done some protein modelling work and ran straight into the problem that there was no way to get the beautiful models into my thesis - we had no printer.
I came up with what I thought was the genius idea of photographing the monitor, the problem was the CRT screen was so curved my models were all distorted. I ended up wheeling the whole SGI computer out into the hall and setting my camera up with a 500mm lens (borrowed from the graphics unit) at the other end of the hall (maybe 50m away). Worked great.

#4I used these in the computer lab at RPI back in the 90s to do 3D animation. It’s crazy to think how much smaller and faster today’s tech is compared to these behemoths.

#6I'm shocked by how crazy the graphics were for back then...I mean seeing the metal logo, I couldn't quite believe that this was possible in 1993. I still have the CGW magazine from this era.

#7The main goal of going to exhibitions like COMDEX [1] was playing a little bit with these computers. Those were strong feelings!

It still runs. Let's keep the fridges to "for parts" ebay purchases for computers that combo of old and interesting.
