He’s an eminently hateable man, who looks like a Vulcan in cheap makeup and a hairpiece, who says things that seem either dishonest or downright intellectually offensive. The hate for him has grown as people were exposed to him more, and learned more about how his company treats people and their privacy. That their initial instinct was to love someone who brought them a product they liked only goes to show how hateful he is, because he squandered that goodwill and then some.
I expect a similar outcome for Elon Musk if Tesla dies, although he still deserves love for the radical success of SpaceX.

That is exactly the reason, and the only reason. Because Facebook let user data from potentially hundreds of millions of people get used by a third party who "said they deleted it" -- they have to take the blame.
