If I was a woman in tech, having to hear the endless tirade of neckbeard know-it-alls who think a summation of scientific articles, as interpreted by laymen with little knowledge of the topic at hand, would not only be tiring, but would lead me to question, unequivocally, the intentions of a person feeling so touched by this topic that he needs to write a "manifesto" on the topic.

If I was a woman in tech, having to hear the endless tirade of neckbeard know-it-alls who think a summation of scientific articles, as interpreted by laymen with little knowledge of the topic at hand, would not only be tiring, but would lead me to question, unequivocally, the intentions of a person feeling so touched by this topic that he needs to write a "manifesto" on the topic.
The engineer’s intention is pretty clear: 1. Get google to drop their illegal diversity quotas, 2. Make sure that the working environment is more suitable so that women want to work there. There’s nothing wrong with that at all...
We’ve already identified that some of the largest tech companies already have toxic cultures that are biased against women, why not like he said find other areas as well that are a barrier to entry and remove them too?

It does seem pretty clear that if the 'manifesto' had been about the professional limitations / propensities / etc. of people based on their ethnic origins it would have been obvious it would lead to firing. Not that there are lots of credible, peer-reviewed studies that could be trotted out to support that claim, just in the sense of how it would make your coworkers feel.

That is not the reason he was cited to have been fired. Someone having different interests than you seems like a bad reason to fire them in any case. He certainly made no effort to force you, or anyone at google, to read the document.
