#2Seems more like propaganda than what we think of as history. In this vein some of the Old Testament comes to mind.
However, when we only have one account it's hard to judge accuracy.

If enough time passes, propaganda can easily become indistinguishable from history.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were identical accounts of Jesus written by different individuals.

Will and Ariel Durant - The Lessons of History is a good short read. Probably flawed as well, but gives you food for thought.
