If this makes bidding that easy to happen, as of now 6 bidders at $800+, why don't they do this for fund raising for each release? Maybe they have to sell 100 to make much of a difference but still better than nothing and gives you a warm feeling that they have generous followers as well.

Although that's true it's still a legitimate question because this appears to be raising far more than a traditional CD sale.

It's too bad the OpenBSD guys didn't discover this long ago. I buy a CD set almost every release just to support the project and would have gone for a small premium for a signed edition.
