This is entertaining but I've seen a lot of grumblings around in comments lately decrying a perceived increased sense of humor for the sake of humor (think slashdot's +5 funny). This is the first purely satirical link I've seen on the front page in recent memory, so I am legitimately curious.

In all seriousness, our team had a discussion about respecting "Do Not Disturb" mode, and it works very well since it a) notifies everyone that you're ignoring them because you're, to quote the article, "getting some fucking work done". And b) aggregates your notifications for you when you come back up for air, allowing you to easily catch back up on what you missed.

Humor is fine on Hacker News if done properly and in a way that is conductive to the conversation. (For a recent example, see the first line of this comment: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11240625 )
There's a big difference between good satire and bad satire, and it's very hard to do satire well without training.

Humor is fine on Hacker News if done properly and in a way that is conductive to the conversation. @minmaxir your brilliant impression of a sincere, self-serious hn'er did not go unnoticed. The following line in particular is a perfect example of cutting satire delievered with a straight face:
