From the brief research I've done, Baidu never owned baidu.tw - their official URL is taiwan.baidu.com. Just take a quick look at archive.org - it used to be a web host/domain registry.

Baidu.com.tw or baidu.tw has nothing to do with Baidu.com

The interesting thing is that the registrant is Chinese:

The address resolves to 66.102.13.103 or .106 which is owned by google.

So if it is a prank, which I doubt then it is just at the DNS level.
