A large proportion of the software that runs HN exists to detect inorganic activity. It's quite obvious to us when significant numbers of comments are made in support of a particular agenda by new accounts or old accounts without regular, normal participation on HN.

Also, it's against the guidelines to allege or speculate about astroturfing (as is anything that is tangential to the primary topic), but we welcome emails (hn@ycombinator.com) from anyone who notices anything that seems suspect, and we're happy to investigate.

The US has shown very quickly that it is not a spent power. Compare what they have done recently in Venezuela and Iran to Russia's botching of taking Kiev and the mess ever since.

But to quote Fiona Hill in regards to China, Russia and iran.

China is, again, just gauging their support and playing all of this out, gaming it out, really, as to how it affects the United States one way or another.

The same is true of North Korea and Iran, she says: support for Russia has been built on antipathy towards the United States and their own beef with the United States.

The US seems in practice to be doing more of a bomb the bad guys strategy. I guess that could work? It's a bit random - Trump's instinct seems to include attacking Canada and Denmark but he doesn't get buy in for those thankfully.

While that's a funny thought, recently I stumbled across a sobering website [1].

This website lets you zoom in on the Ukraine-Russia battlefront and place Polymarket bets on land being taken by Russia. We may be closer to big private company betting on wars than we'd like to think.

You can hope that (and I can hope that), but the powers that are driving this military action completely do not care about this outcome. Which makes it exceedingly difficult for me to think this will happen.

I know the US proxies keep blabbering about 'regime change', but there's zero intentionality behind the political work to do that. My guess is balkanization, which won't really go how the US/Israel wants it to go

Trump is indeed a peace president. He is shutting down the middle east PVP server. Iran has been attacking everyone for 47 years. That era is coming to an end. It's time to make Iran great again.
