My biggest concern with AI is that it could be controlled by a group of oligarchs who care about nothing more than enriching themselves. A "Linux" version of AI that anyone can use, experiment with, and build off of freely would be incredible. A heavily restricted, policed and surveilled system controlled by ruthlessly greedy companies like OpenAI and Microsoft sounds dystopian.

Yep, just like a keyboard will let someone type whatever bad words they want to, which I think is much better than the alternative. Imagine if early PCs had been locked down as far as which words could be typed and had a million restrictions on which lines of code could be executed. It would have led to a dismal invention.
I do think you're probably right about AI though. Too many influential groups are going to get too mad about the words an open model will output. Only allowing locked down models is going to severly limit their usefullness for all sorts of novel creative and productive use cases.

Even if I wasn't going to argue that OpenAI had at least something new enough to capture people's attention, I will tell you that when it comes to people's quotes, the ReplyGuy "true" meaning of it matters less than the way its received as a meme.
I really don't care what's in Peter Theil's heart, I care how he influences others and that influence has been malign.
"Competition is for losers" pretty much speaks for itself. You can write an essay about it and hope everyone that looks at Theil as a hero reads that essay or you can take it at face like people are doing.

Except they don't make any money from their products. They're losing hundreds of millions per month. This isn't the same at all.
I reviewed the hearing in more details, and I'm now still in the opinion that it's not the same, but now I think that Sam Altman is a huge c** for this regulatory capture BS.
I cancelled my ChatGPT plus membership. I'll be using OSS solutions like Vicuna from now ion.

It’s less about how it could be hacked and more about why an AI would do that or have the capability to do it without any warning.
That’s the alignment problem. We don’t know what the actual goals of an AI trained neural net are. We know what criteria we trained it against, but it turns out that’s not at all the same thing.
I highly recommend Rob Miles channel on YouTube. Here’s a good one, but they’re all fascinating. It turns out training an AI to have the actual goals we want it to have is fiendishly difficult.

#1000Skeptical me things the cat is out of the bag, and they are scrambling to capture it back. The amount that has been invested into OpenAi is massive, imagine if it's all for nothing?
We can run this stuff at home, on a Pixel, or even laptop.
Open source is lapping them, and they are running to the government to help.
