Calling it Department of War is pathetic from Anthropic’s side.
All this is for nought. The power lies with the US Govt. And its corrupt, immoral and unethical, run by power hungry assholes who are not being held accountable, headed by the asshole who does a million illegal things every day. Ultimately, Anthropic will fold. All this is to show to their investors that they tried everything they could.
Anthropic probably can’t fold, they might lose an existential number of researchers if they did. This is literally an unstoppable force meets an immovable object situation. Hegseth probably folds. It would be too unpopular for him to take either of the actions he threatened.

Flagship LLM companies seem like the absolute worst possible companies to try and nationalize. 1. There's a simpler explanation than "billionaires with hearts of gold" here. If: (1) this is a wildly unpopular and optically bad deal (2) it's a high data rate deal--lots of tokens means bad things for Anthropic. Users which use their product heavily are costing more than they pay. All of these problems are downstream of the Congress having thoroughly abdicated its powers to the executive. The military should be reigned in at the legislative level, by constraining what it can and cannot do under law. Popular action is the only way to make that happen. This isn't a one-election thing. It's going to be a generational effort to fix what these people are breaking more of every day. I hope I live to see it come to some kind of fruition - I recently turned 50.
Some people are calling it the "American century of humiliation" No other country that went through a phase like this has ever recovered. Not even in a century.
They should wait until some or all of the following things have happened:
1. Camp David is sacked, looted and burned to the ground by foreign troops. [1]
2. Foreign naval vessels patrol American rivers to protect foreign corporate interests in America. [2]
3. Foreign nations have unrestricted access to American ports and trade. [3]
4. America pays a large indemnity for attempting to resist. [4]
5. Foreign nationals become immune to US law. [5]
6. Multiple military defeats and territorial losses. [6]
7. This goes on unfettered for 100 years.
All in all perhaps it is a bit early to call it that.
