I have a kid, it's great most of the time. My theory is some people struggle with life, and if that's the case, having a child can increase the struggle. Conversely, if someone enjoys life and things are going well, a child can often enrich it even further.

Can we assume then that your child doesn't have special needs?

He has some issues with speech, but it's something he's working on with speech therapy. I don't mean to say that having a kid is easy. It's more akin to playing in interesting sport: hard work, rests are welcome, but it is fun.

Besides the wider social trend for kids, did the pedestrian deaths decrease because cars get safer or people are just too scared to walk and take the car for everything? The increase of cars on the roads support this though: There might be a lot less pedestrians now than there were in 1975.

For adults the number of pedestrian isn’t explanatory on its own. You need to look at several trends including smartphones and changing city streets to really understand the risk factors.

Cars are simpler because you can compare different models through time to build a clear picture of their relative safety.

All us over-30s with kids probaly random-walked into jobs that are family-friendly and are staying there . In my current team, almost half the people - and importantly, the previous and current manager - have kids, usually more than one. I have a similar job but there aren't that many parents,just a job treating us well. We do have an amazing cto and ceo from the human point of view, which is why I think the company works well with parents.

One joke that me and my wife say is that we cannot find other parents that like videogames and board games. Apparently we are a rare category and it's incredibly annoying

I mean, you can try to be appealing to a higher ideal here, but all the people who make children (myself included) do it for themselves (the parents of the child). So yeah, entertainment might not be the exact word, but for a broad enough meaning of it, that's probably the reason for a good chunk of children.

The child didn't ask to be born.

Why do you think that is? People waiting I mean

As someone in my early 20s, I can barely even take care of myself (and that's pushing it). At this stage of my life, I can't imagine being able to give a child everything a parent needs to give them.

There is a huge debt that the military budget might be diverted into instead. It's likely this military budget that ensures the debt can be never repaid.

US federal debt can't just be "repaid", it's basically all in non-callable bonds. It can be paid on one schedule, and diverting funds to it won't get it paid any faster.
