These things have cameras and mics in them. Am I the only one concerned about people walking into every space with surveillance systems that are capturing us and sending that data to some random set of companies who have no obligation to keep our information confidential? How can I have a conversation with a friend wearing one of these? And surely workplaces will ban these?

Bone conduction headphones will give you the same audio experience with better battery life and usb-c charging. I think a lot of people don't want to "feed the beast" and reward Meta for their terrible impact on society.
My wife loves bone conduction, but to me it sounds terrible. Makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if my bones just suck
It will never be as good as open ear headphones, some frequencies just don't translate well via conduction, but they're good enough for podcasts, TV and movies. They're great for music if you're exercising or need to be aware of your surroundings, but if you care about sound quality, they are not something you'd want to use to listen to music in a quiet room, for example.

It really is a shame that such a useful tool for staying connected with the real people in your life warped into the monster it is now. If Google's social media had caught on (and not inevitably went the same way in the name of maximizing attention) it probably would have been close to optimal. I get that they aren't running a charity, but its sad to think about how many benefits social media brought compared to the addiction machine it is now.

I think the backlash against Google Glass was counterproductive - the product was intentionally made to be obvious that someone was wearing it. But because of the backlash, companies that want to do this kind of tech now have to hide it, such as this.
Actually, this reminds me I might buy a pair after all. In my case I was reviewing an important document package and wanted a way to quickly confirm later what I put in. But I've also recorded unboxings (when worried about a potential return) and disassembly of appliances for repairs that I only make every year or two.
