What a shocker. People in this thread, in the same breath, can easily say assassinating too many civilian nuclear scientists in countries like Iran (oh, add India, and I am sure many more, to that list; you didn't know, did you?) is kosher (or use phrases like: "so what?", "what about that?", "what?", "do you think that's a fair comparison?", "that's different", etc.), and then there's killing children and the elderly (the whole schools, hospitals, marriage parties, villages if the mood is right) is also justified (see, how we only talk about children, elderly, and women; indiscriminately killing adults who are neither women nor elderly is of course a fashionable thing to do), but a symbolic Molotov cocktail thrown at this person's home, who has been throwing such cocktails collectively at the rest of us, is barbaric and a harbinger of the end times.

I was joking. This "not in my white picket fence side of the world" is anything but shocking on HN or pretty much any online forum largely populated by people from those sides of the world. HN loves using a microscope, but sometimes rather a telescope with alarmingly selective dexterity.

> The rest of what is written doesn't matter. This isn't the moment for that conversation That's terrible that someone did that. I think that's wrong, and people that do that should be in prison. But if the rest of what was written didn't matter, it wouldn't be written. He thought it was important enough to put it in. It's there to be read and discussed. Another comment lacking any compassion. The man was reeling from what happened. He blames himself and his work. He sat and he wrote, naturally it came back to OpenAI. Should he of? Probably not. But it's understandable that he did. We can meet the moment with some understanding and give the guy a little wiggle room.

No, when you’re the richest most powerful men in the world you don’t get compassion.

“Structural violence” sounds like a religious concept, like original sin. Your beliefs are your own, but they don’t entitle you to murder someone, just like we don’t let fundamentalists murder gay folks, no matter what their religion tells them.

> but I don’t think violence is funny or justified Well, that's okay, because even Sam Altman disagrees with you. He absolutely believes that violence, including deadly violence, is justified - hence his contract with the US Department of War to use their systems in kill chains. Perhaps the problem is that whoever threw the cocktail didn't use AI to select him as a target, or maybe he didn't receive payment for throw…

Jfc. People, a molitov cocktail was thrown as his home. The rest of what is written doesn't matter. This isn't the moment for that conversation. That's his family. He has a fucking child. Holy shit.

Better stop paying taxes then, cause your government, whatever it is, is probably ok with using your tax money to in some cases fund the killing of people who have families and children. Now, we can argue about the morality of killing those exact people as opposed to killing Sam Altman, but that's a different discussion. My point is that the real argument isn't over whether it's ok to kill people who have families an…

This but unironically. Federal taxes should be protested, they're basically only spent on killing innocent Middle Eastern children at this point, all useful spending is negligible, especially after this administration.

He's a sociopath, that was just acting.

Nobody has one. If labor stops having value the economy will stop working and society will break down far in advance of building the infrastructure necessary for the promised AI abundance. I like the idea of being ”post-scarcity” as much as the next guy, but I don’t understand how we get there. It’s a project in itself, it doesn’t just happen by magic, and nobody is actively trying to make it happen or has any logist…

It is not impossible to think that many people will just be served an UBI and don't expect much more in life, after all, if we have AI+Family+Housing+Food (assuming gov robots would take care of providing us free food in some form) , I bet millions of people would be contented with it. PS: I include AI as an important one in the future because it will be a direct way to get educated and replace college for example wi…

It's more likely that the people are just left out to dry instead of getting UBI.

When was the last time a molotov cocktail was thrown at the house of an arms manufacturer? Trump and other presidents literally started wars and ordered people to be killed. When was the last time they were physically attacked?

When was the last time a molotov cocktail was thrown at the house of an arms manufacturer?

Or the houses of the people who created and dropped the nukes on Japan?

The people behind many massacres including the ones perpetrated by the US itself?
