Not the OP, but hibernate support is one thing that sent me back to windows on my Framework laptop. It's really funny because this is one of the things I absolutely do not like about Windows. I absolutely hate it that I put the computer to sleep and when I come back the next day it has hibernated. That said, I agree that hibernation has always been finicky on Linux, however, I would say Ubuntu is not the best distro for this use case. I have been using Fedora and they even publish official guides for it[0] that's how seriously they take it.

Thing is: That's your preference and nobody should force you to use these indicators. Even on Windows, the tray icons are usually mostly hidden away.

I find them highly useful on macOS, but there I lack the configurability I have on Windows.

The problem is not only the DAW support, but the support of low-latency audio interfaces in Linux. Audio interface makers rarely create a Linux driver, and a low-latency setup on Linux is its own hell, with real-time kernel patches. On MacOS and Windows, it works out of the box.

I always say that there's only one reason to use vim over emacs, and that's that vi is on almost every machine you touch. It's an optional POSIX command[0], but it is as common as `more` or `type`. Those are interesting theories. The system is a little more complicated and it’s hard for an insurer to directly control theft rates (to continue your example) but they do charge less for vehicle types that are stolen less often.

Early days of Plasma 5 definitely can be described this way. Although I think we all forget just how fucking ugly early gnome 3 was. But since mid Plasma 5 and on, it's incredibly stable and consistent in design. At this point, more consistent than gnome.

I was using Plasma 6 to get fractional scaling working (wrote the wrong version in original post)

Anti-cheats are not really compatible on Linux IIRC. Maybe there have been improvements on this front but I think this was the main issue for a lot of gamers. This and there were cases when they were getting banned for playing through Wine. I once tried to set up a GPU passthrough setup to a Windows VM to play WoW but there were a ton of report that Blizzard just banned players for using QEMU VMs because they were ma…

The two most widely used anti cheat application battle eye and easy anti cheat both natively support linux but game developer have to check a box to enable it.

About 40% of games that use anti cheat currently work on linux. Getting banned for using wine is very rare because anti cheat that don't support linux would complain about not running an prevent you from even joining a game to get banned.

I do feel similarly that there are huge conflicts of interest in the finance industry. Mortgages and house prices is another one that comes to mind. Finance doesn't just react to the reality, it plays a part in driving the reality. It's a bit of a chicken and egg thing. I feel like in general humans are particularly susceptible to complicated things being abstracted by simple numbers and the finance industry is just cashing in on this susceptibility.
