and since it’s mentioned in the post, it feels fair game to call it out: Andy has revised his experience up over the years, from working at Scale to running support at scale to founding a team at Scale… he was an early employee who did some customer support. Presumably Simple got caught up in Andy’s impressive revisionism.

Dave Morse and Varun (later Toan, great FDE i learnt a lot from him about many things at both Scale AI and Anduril) they hired me and kept me on the team and tried to get me not to leave ever by being kind managers because i did support in slack and was a human Pylon and it was nothing. they were small tickets and API integrations. trivial for claude today. as i said i did nothing. truly very little. my contributions…

i am sincere in acknowledging the magnitude of my work historically as very insignificant. the only thing i actually did in my career was work with Austin at Shuffle Dating. the rest is meaninglessly small if you want to put KPIs on any of it.

but most people suck at applying John Doerrs OKRs i promise i asked him.

direct contribution to topline growth is how i'd look at it, or bottom line efficiency. the rest is noise.

actually i think Ruben Mayer taught me that one at Scale. do you know him too? great guy. very sharp.

he was cofounders with Botez, we played chess in high school. did you know that too? but i didn't talk to her much, Andrea just crushed me when she was 12 at the portland chess club i doubt she remembers either and all of this is water under the bridge. just funny stories

I stand by it. I am not being hostile, I am making a statement. Not that it matters, but I consider myself insane, too, and also unemployable. The point of my comment was to inform others that this is not what it looks like when you are going through a manic episode, this is just who you are, this is Andy being Andy. The point of my comment is also that whatever happened between you and Simple was obviously going to happen and it isn't a reflection on Simple. Well, they were bad in their hiring but whatever, they are a startup, it happens.

Happens. I worked at a startup that offered to triple my equity if I stayed a full four years, a special offer to me for seven months of excellent performance. Four months later, growth below projections, they laid me off 19 days before my 1 year cliff. 3/9ths of the engineering team, gone. The lesson I’ve learned is to never, ever, put long hours into a startup you don’t own. Ever.

woah that is super rough actually. i'm sorry gjsman-1000 thanks for sharing on HN sincerely. i think more war stories makes the world a better place, in that we build the culture forward one brick at a time. one human talking to another, at a time. this is powerful stuff.

In addition to the reasons expressed in the comments, another reason may be that you said in the article to "please go upvote" the HN thread, which is against the rules (see https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html ) and something a lot of HN users care strongly about.
