A lot of game companies are really committed to building products that their customers hate these days. What happened to talking to your customers?

In business, your customers aren't the people who buy your product, they are the people who fund your company.

There is no income from customers for 3 to 4 years during developing. Therefore they face interfere from investors and banks first.

The problem is that comparing two stock prices is meaningless; it's comparing apples to oranges. People are commenting that your conclusion (Ubisoft's stock price is less than our stock price, which dropped 75%, so Ubisoft has a problem) is a logical fallacy. This is the finance equivalent of a divide by zero error.

Jesus Christ it’s not a logical fallacy. Ubisoft does have a problem. They’ve lost 95% of their value. Outside of that I was merely commenting about my surprisal that a house hold name like Ubisoft was doing so poorly. Stop taking things in such absolutes.

It's not that people are taking things in absolutes. I think everyone agrees that stock price siding so far is a very bad sign.

You specifically made a direct comparison between your employer's and Ubisoft's absolute stock prices. That's what people are calling out, and for good reason. It is fundamentally not possible to compare stock price directly like that. Literally meaningless.

Stock prices as lone numbers are completely arbitrary. If a company feels that the price per unit is too high or too low they can even do merges and splits, ie multiplying the number of shares by an arbitrary value of their choosing.

40% is not earth-shattering when it closed at $6.73 yesterday.

The absolute value of one share doesn't really mean anything. No matter how you slice it, down 40% means that the company lost 40% of its value overnight. That's pretty Earth shattering for any company IMO.

If it does not mean anything, why do day traders concentrate on sub $10 stocks and long term investors ignore them?

CoD is a different beast though. In 2021, PlayStation tracked that that 1 million players on their console only had CoD installed and played no other games. Most Ubi franchise aren't that type of game ouside Rainbow Six which has a lot of years on it now. Ubisoft games used to be varied and innovative and they boiled a dozen IP's down to the exact same open world slop with different coats of paint while sending loved…

>ouside Rainbow Six which has a lot of years on it now. Yeah, it’s got a 30th anniversary coming up in 2 years.

I think he’s talking about Siege

Did you just answer your own question? Sure, the share price is a psychological element and, in conjunction with pre-fractional-ownership, it helps explain the prevalence of splits above $100/share. But no, the individual unit price doesnt affect true “value”, marketcap, or fundamentals like future discounted profit model.

Just last week it was revealed that it had gotten an ESRB rating (now removed). So it must have been pretty far along in development. https://web.archive.org/web/20260114063329/https://www.esrb....

What happens to all that content/work when this sort of thing happens? Just gone gone or?

Usually gone or retooled for something else. Even just within the Prince of Persia series, they had a game called Prince of Persia: Assassins that was canceled and turned into Assassin's Creed. There was also a sequel to Prince of Persia 2008 in development that was cancelled and never showed up again. You can even find footage from both of these games online, but they will never see the light of day unless someone leaks them (which does happen sometimes).

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is dead ?.

When has it been truly alive, is it 10 or 15 years of development hell now?

Pretty sure it's been over 20 years. I actually wonder what makes Ubisoft so committed to the project. Even Michel Ancel himself left in 2020. I'd love to see those original 2008 builds of the game, they had to have made TONS of content over the years that just remains locked away on some file server forever.
