Can you give an example of those places?

DDG is at least a reasonable way to ween yourself off Google search rather than needing to go full cold turkey.

My theory is the opposite.
Career politicians have a lot to lose from universal data collection. They are already running into issues caused by 5-year-old tweets; imagine if their whole digital history was leaked? This is the one silver lining regarding legislation prospects.

Why are you carving out Android instead of all smartphones? Also, you can turn off OK google in Android, although they don't make it as easy as they should.
What is actually the correct way to do this? I don't use Android myself (I use https://ubports.com/ - it's great and you should try it), but several times I've had other people ask me to turn it off, and the best I can come up with is just dragging the Google search box off the home screen. I don't think there's anywhere where it's illegal to record conversations of both parties know about it.
- DuckDuckGo as default search engine
- Own domain for email, forwarded to Apple's mail
- Apple map, Yandex map, Waze, Here WeGo for maps (depending on the country)
- For videos, I search them in DDG with " !yt", then copy the links I want and download them with `youtube-dl`
- Firefox and Safari
- Zoho as a replacement for online docs and spreadsheets
etc.
